新加坡永定会馆简史
(1918-2025)
- 成立与早期发展 (1918-1945): 1918 年 3 月 14 日,由胡必育、胡秀容、张滋楼、胡星阶等先贤发起的新加坡永定会馆正式注册成立,是东南亚地区最早的永定同乡组织。1919 年购置维多利亚街会所,作为联络东南亚各地永定同乡的总部,为乡亲提供信息交流与互助服务。
- 日占时期与战后复兴 (1942-1965): 1942 年至 1945 年日占期间,会所曾作为难民收容所,庇护同乡。战后会馆迁至新桥路 361 号恢复运作。
- 文化与互助 (1946-1965): 1946 年出版《永定月刊》,报道新中两地乡情文化。1951 年成立互助会,协助办理婚丧喜庆等事务,充分发挥同乡互帮互助精神。
新加坡独立后:1965-2025
- 会馆搬迁史:
- 1919年:在维多利亚街自置会所(Victoria St)
- 1945年:战后搬迁至361号新桥路(361 New Bridge Road)
- 1970 年:迁入加东区19号德明巷三层楼宇会所(19 Dunman Lane)。
- 1979 年:因政府不批准该地段做会馆用途而搬离。
- 1980 年:购入尼路三间店屋 (128//130/132 Neil Road)。
- 1985 年:正式入驻 132 号尼路办公,其余 128/130 单位出租。
- 2022 年:出售尼路三间店屋产业,同年买下 147 Kitchener Road 及 466 Geylang Road。
- 2024 年:466 Geylang Road 拆除重建为五层新大楼, 2026 年竣工。届时一至三层出租,四、五层自用。
- 2022 至 2026 年期间:会馆临时办事处设在 #06-13 珍珠大厦。
- 会务发展与特色活动:
- 转型与拓展:1965 年新加坡建国,会馆顺应国家发展,由南洋乡侨总会转型为本岛社团,积极拓展会务,传承华族文化与推广华语。
- 会员福利:1974 年设立奖贷学金,1987 年推行敬老渡岁金,持续和完善会员福利体系。
- 区域与国际联谊:1985 年主办新马恳亲会,加强区域乡谊。1988 年举办 70 周年庆典,主宾是永定籍时任财政部长胡赐道博士,出版第一本《70 周年纪念特刊》。2008 年 90 周年庆典期间成功筹备 “世界永定同乡恳亲大会”,推动国际联谊,出版第二本《90 周年纪念特刊》。2017 年举办 99 周年会庆暨第三届世界永定同乡恳亲大会,出版第三本《99 周年纪念特刊》
- 文化传承与创新:1998 年起不定期出版《永定会刊》,修改不合时宜章程,以达薪火相传。1998年会务复兴阶段,因时制宜拓展 “内外结合” 活动模式。2012 年首创 “走入校园企划”,通过多元形式向学生推介客家文化。2011 年承办第八届客家歌谣会,盛况空前。
- 多元发展:2000 年进入蓬勃发展,开办各类与时俱进的课程与讲座。2003 年成立妇女组,2004 年引进女董事。2006 年组建青年团并开通会馆官方网站。
- 荣誉与创新:2013 年获宗乡总会 “杰出会馆优秀奖”。2017 年举办 99 周年会庆暨第三届世界永定同乡恳亲大会之际,创作新会徽,会歌《薪火》和《客逢狮城》,制作《薪火》微电影。2019年再获宗乡总会 “杰出会馆奖” 荣衔。2020 年 COVID-19 疫情期间,制作抗疫宣传短片,举办重阳送温情活动。2021 年与中国湖南卫视合作录制华人华侨春晚节目。
- 产业转型 (2022-2025): 2022 至 2025 年,着重产业的转型 / 发展 / 重建 466 Geylang Road 会馆大楼。

A Brief History of the Singapore Eng Teng Association
(1918-2025)
Before Singapore’s Independence: 1918-1965
- Establishment and Early Development (1918-1945): The Singapore Eng Teng Association was officially registered on March 14, 1918, initiated by pioneers such as Hu Biyu, Hu Xiurong, Zhang Zilou, and Hu Xingjie, becoming the earliest Yongding hometown association in Southeast Asia. In 1919, the association purchased a clubhouse on Victoria Street, serving as the headquarters for connecting Yongding clansmen from all over Southeast Asia, providing information exchange and mutual assistance services to fellow clansmen.
- Japanese Occupation Period and Post-War Revival (1942-1965): During the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945, the clubhouse served as a refugee shelter, protecting fellow villagers. After the war, the association moved to 361 New Bridge Road to resume operations.
- Culture and Mutual Assistance (1946-1965): In 1946, the “Eng Teng Monthly” was published, reporting on the culture and sentiments of the hometowns in both Singapore and China. In 1951, a mutual aid branch was established to assist in weddings, funerals, and other celebrations, fully embodying the spirit of mutual help among fellow clansmen.
After Singapore’s Independence: 1965-2025
- History of Association Relocations:
- 1919: Victoria Street
- 1945: 361 New Bridge Road
- 1970: Moved into a three-story clubhouse at 19 Dunman Lane in the Katong area.
- 1979: Forced to move out because the government did not approve the use of the site for association purposes.
- 1980: Purchased three shophouses on Neil Road (128//130/132 Neil Road).
- 1985: Officially moved into 132 Neil Road for office use, while the remaining units 128/130 were rented out.
- 2022: Sold the three shophouses on Neil Road and purchased 147 Kitchener Road and 466 Geylang Road in the same year.
- 2024: 466 Geylang Road was demolished and rebuilt into a four-storey new building, expected to be completed in 2026. The first to third floors of the new building will be rented out, and the fourth floor will be used by the association itself.
- During the period from 2022 to 2026, the association’s temporary office is located at #06-13 People’s Park Centre.
- Development of Association Affairs and Featured Activities:
- Transformation and Expansion: In 1965, with the founding of Singapore, the association adapted to national development, transforming from the Nanyang Hometown Association into a local community organization, actively expanding its activities, inheriting Chinese culture, and promoting Mandarin.
- Member Benefits: Scholarship and bursary funds were established in 1974, and the Elderly Support Fund was launched in 1987, continuously improving the member welfare.
- Regional and International Friendship: In 1985, the Singapore-Malaysia Gathering was organized to strengthen regional friendship. In 1988, the 70th anniversary celebration was held, with Dr. Richard Hu, the then Minister of Finance of Yongding origin, as the guest of honour, and the commemorative “70th Anniversary Special Edition” was published. During the 90th anniversary celebration in 2008, the “World Yongding Clansmen Conference” was successfully organized to promote international friendship, and the “90th Anniversary Special Edition” was published to commemorate the occasion. Celebrated 99thanniversary cum the 3rd “World Yongding Convention“ in 2017, and published the “99th Anniversary Special Edition” to commemorate the occasion.
- Safeguarding Cultural Heritage and Innovation: From 1998, the “Eng Teng Newsletter” was published occasionally, and the Association’s Constitution was revised and updated to keep pace with the societal changes and to strengthen the governance framework. In 2012, the “Entering Campus Project” was initiated, introducing Hakka culture to students through diverse forms. In 2011, the 8th Hakka Ballad Concert was held, which was unprecedentedly grand.
- Diversified Development: Entering a period of vigorous development in 2000, various up-to-date courses and lectures were offered. The Women’s Group was established in 2003, and female directors were introduced in 2004. The Youth Group was formed and the association’s official website was launched in 2006.
- Honours and Innovation: In 2013, the association won the “Outstanding Association Award” from the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations. In 2017, the 99th anniversary celebration and the 3rd World Yongding Clan World Convention were held, the association song “Xin Huo” (Spark) and “Ke Feng Shi Cheng” (Hakka in Singapore) were created, the micro-movie “Xin Huo” (Spark) was produced. In 2019, the association once again won the “Outstanding Association Award” from the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, short videos in Hakka were produced to help others to understand the pandemic, and activities were held to send warmth to the elderly during the Double Ninth Festival. In 2021, it cooperated with China Hunan TV to record a live broadcast program for the Chinese New Year Gala for Chinese at home and abroad.
- Premises Transformation: From 2022 to 2025, the focus is on the redevelopment of the 466 Geylang Road site as the new Association Building.
